Cloud9 vs 100 Thieves – LCS 2024 Spring Playoffs Betting Picks

The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2024 Spring Playoffs kick off on Thursday, March 14, with the first match of the upper bracket between Cloud9 and 100 Thieves. Both teams had a good run through the regular season; however, based on the esports betting odds, there’s a clear gap between the two.

Cloud9 vs 100 Thieves

When: Thursday, March 14, 13:00 PDT

Cloud9 ended the LCS 2024 Spring regular season in third place, with an 8-6 record, which would suggest they struggled more than many expected. That isn’t entirely true.

Cloud9 had an explosive start to the season and looked unstoppable for the first two weeks; however, they hit a bump in the road before the break and went from 3-0 to 3-4, with four straight losses against Shopify Rebellion, Immortals, FlyQuest, and Team Liquid.

As noted, during this dry streak Cloud9 looked very out-of-character and not like the Cloud9 we know. And while it’s fair to mention that Cloud9 stumbled a bit, they quickly got back on track after the break and accumulated five wins over the next six series – suffering just two more defeats against Immortals and 100 Thieves.

Losing to 100 Thieves before the rematch in the playoffs doesn’t sound good, and since 100 Thieves overtook Cloud9 in the standings, they’ll have side choice for the upcoming match. But even with that in mind, Cloud9 are the better team.

The Numbers In LCS

Cloud9 might’ve ended the LCS 2024 Spring regular season with an 8-6 record, but they have some of the best performance figures in the league. Cloud9 reached the 20-minute mark with a lead in nearly 90% of their games and have the league’s strongest figures in Gold Difference at 10, 15, and 20 minutes.

In contrast, 100 Thieves rank second in the league with their gold difference at 10 minutes, but seventh and eighth at 15 and 20. Even comparing the 10-minute mark GD, Cloud9 boast over +700 gold lead on average whereas 100T’s figures show +37. Evidently, there’s quite a gap between the two teams.

Strong early-game teams have been performing better this split across all regions – including LCS – grated there are some examples of teams who, even with strong early, struggle in mid-late game due to poor macro. Even in that area, Cloud9 are in a fine spot – and in a much better position than 100 Thieves.

100 Thieves are a very resilient team and they’ve fought back from losing positions this season. Moreover, they ended the LCS 2024 Spring with a 10-4 record, which is seriously impressive for a new and young roster. However, winning in Bo1s and in the playoffs are two entirely different things.

100 Thieves have done well for themselves in the LCS 2024 Spring regular season, but I’m not overexaggerating when I say Cloud9 will crush them. Besides their little slip-up before the LCS break, Cloud9 has been by far the best team in the league – proven by both the performance metrics and the eye test.

It is possible that 100 Thieves take a game and if Cloud9 don’t play well, I can imagine 100T taking two. However, the teams had a whole week to prepare for this match, which should benefit Cloud9 more as the more experienced team with more tools to do well against any team. 100 Thieves can cook up something, and it wouldn’t be the most shocking thing to see them put on a show, but assuming both sides play at 100%, you have to have a very good reason to doubt Cloud9.
