College Betting Rules By State

Learn more about the gambling regulations and college betting rules by state and how do the rules affect which college sports you can and can’t bet on.

Arizona

Sports betting on college games in Arizona is possible and allowed for all sports and college teams, except for betting on college player props

Arkansas

Arkansas has no restrictions on college betting.

Colorado

Bettors from Colorado are allowed to bet on all college sports and games but are not allowed to place college player props.

Connecticut

Punters from Connecticut are not allowed to bet on any Connecticut-based teams, except if they’re competing in a tournament.

Delaware

Betting on matches involving Delaware college teams is not allowed.

Illinois

Illinois originally prohibited all betting on in-state college teams but later amended the law to allow betting on local teams if the bets were placed in person.

Indiana

Betting on college sports in Indiana is allowed, as is betting on any Indiana-based teams, except for in-play collegiate player props.

Iowa

All betting allowed except for college player props.

Kansas

All forms of college sports betting, including player props are allowed in Kansas.

Louisiana

No restrictions on collegiate sports betting.

Maryland

There are no restrictions on college sports betting in Maryland.

Massachusetts

You can’t bet on in-state college teams in Massachusetts unless they’re playing in a tournament.

Michigan

No restrictions on college betting in Michigan.

Mississippi

Betting on in-state schools is allowed in Mississippi, however, only at retail locations.

Montana

Montana has no restrictions on collegiate betting.

Nevada

No restrictions in Nevada.

New Hampshire

No betting on college matches involving New Hampshire teams or on games taking place in the state.

New Jersey

No betting on New Jersey teams and college games taking place in New Jersey.

New Mexico

In New Mexico, it’s possible to bet on sports only at the five tribal sites, each with its own rules about collegiate betting. Resorts allows all betting on college teams, whereas Santa Ana Star prohibits betting on New Mexico teams.

New York

It’s not possible to bet on matches involving New York schools, nor is it possible to bet on college player props.

North Carolina

No restrictions.

North Dakota

Like in New Mexico, betting in North Dacota is in the hands of tribal entities, which can set their own rules about betting on college teams.

Ohio

In Ohio it’s possible to bet on in-state colleges.

Oregon

Oregon doesn’t allow wagering on college sports.

Pennsylvania

No betting on college player props.

Rhode Island

It’s not possible to bet on college games taking place in Rhode Island and on any match involving a Rhode Island team.

South Dakota

Betting on college sports involving South Dakota teams is not possible, nor is wagering on collegiate player props.

Tennessee

Tennessee allows collegiate betting, except for props and in-play college player props.

Virginia

Betting on Virginia schools and college player props is prohibited.

Washington

Betting on college matches involving Washington schools or games sponsored by Washington schools is prohibited.

Washington D.C.

No betting on games involving Washington D.C. schools or games taking place in the state.

West Virginia

No betting on college player props.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin doesn’t allow betting on local college teams.

Wyoming

No restrictions for college betting in Wyoming.
