ESL Pro League Season 17 enters the final stage of the group stage on Wednesday, March 15, with the opening fixtures of Group D.

We’ll see eight Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams competing over five days to determine which four squads will enter the playoffs and fight for the lion’s share of the $850,000 prize pool and a direct invite to BLAST World Final 2023.

ESL Pro League Season 17 Group D Format & Schedule

ESL Pro League Season 17 Group D will start on Wednesday, March 15, and conclude on Sunday, March 19, with the final pair of games. The group will welcome eight Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams, including Natus Vincere, Astralis, Team Liquid, Rare Atom, ATK, ENCE, Team Spirit, and forZe, who’ll fight for four spots in the playoffs.

  • Date: March 15-19
  • Venue: Malta
  • Where to Watch: YouTube, Twitch

ESL Pro League S17 Group D will have a familiar triple-elimination format, with all matches played as best-of-three (Bo3). The top four teams from the group will advance into the playoffs and will be seeded based on their placement.

The group winners will advance to the quarterfinals; runners-up will proceed to the Round of 12 as high seeds, while third- and fourth-placed teams will advance to the Round of 16 as high and low seeds, respectively.

NaVi and Team Liquid Favourited To Come Out On Top

According to the latest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive betting odds, Natus Vincere (3.40 at bet365) and Team Liquid (4.33) are the main favourites to win Group D. The two juggernauts are followed by Astralis (5.00), ENCE (5.50), and Team Spirit (5.50) as three dark horses to upset the order but also the only remaining teams with a realistic chance to cause some noise.

The lineup is rounded up by three outsiders in forZe (11.00), ATK (76.00), and Rare Atom (151.00), who are expected to struggle and are the leading candidates to crash out of the group stage and head home early.

Outside of NaVi and Team Liquid, who are undeniably the top two teams in Group D, the third-fourth spots seem pretty open. Astralis field a stacked roster which should be in contention for a top-10 in the world, but the Danes have struggled to achieve much over the last year.

Team Spirit are always a tough opponent, but their success this year has been limited to lesser events, but they’ve consistently struggled to deliver at the highest level. Likewise, ENCE can have its moments, but we haven’t seen them achieve much since PGL Major Antwerp 2022.

Who’s Favoured To Win ESL Pro League Season 17

Esports betting sites have yet to open markets for the outright ESL Pro League Season 17 champion, but based on how the first three groups played out, it’s hard not to pick out the leading squads.

G2 Esports, Cloud9, Outsiders, Heroic, Team Vitality, and FaZe Clan are all familiar names when we talk about the current best CS:GO teams in the world, and they’ve all proven their worth in their respective group. G2 Esports had a bit of a rough run through Group A, where they lost against Cloud9, but they’ve not lost the status as one of the best teams in the tournament.

Outsiders and Cloud9 both failed to impress in recent events, but it seems like they’re ready to prove the doubters wrong with a strong run at ESL Pro League S17. Likewise, Heroic will have a lot to prove following a couple of deep tournament runs, which saw them stumble at the finish line.

Potentially joining the leading candidates to hoist the trophy are Team Liquid and Natus Vincere, who both reached the semifinals of Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2023 and now look to be in prime form to contest another Big Event title.

A tournament like ESL Pro League has a lot to offer, with plenty of storylines to follow and no lack of upset results in the event’s final stage. Whether this season will feature a repeat winner or whether we’ll see a new squad lift the trophy remains to be seen, but before all that, we have to get the final four playoff teams from Group D.
