FlyQuest vs Team Liquid – LCS 2024 Spring Playoffs Betting Picks

The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2024 Spring Playoffs continue on Friday, March 15, 2024, with the second fixture of the opening round between FlyQuest and Team Liquid. The two LCS sides both had their ups and downs throughout the regular season, but by the end of it, FlyQuest finished well above Team Liquid.

However, the question remains – can FlyQuest justify their tag as esports betting favourites and make it past Team Liquid in best-of-series?

FlyQuest vs Team Liquid

When: Friday, March 15, 13:00 PDT

FlyQuest and Team Liquid have split their two meetings throughout the LCS 2024 Spring regular season 1-1. However, that number is a bit misleading. FlyQuest should’ve won both meetings, and they would’ve had they not thrown away their advantageous position in the most recent clash on March 8.

Even though seeing a team do well in a best-of-one doesn’t necessarily translate to a best-of-five series, one thing is for certain. The LCS has only two teams you could consider good – FlyQuest and Cloud9. Other sides had their moments throughout the regular season, but overall, Cloud9 and FlyQuest have looked much better than any other team in the North American LoL league.

Team Liquid aren’t terrible and is close behind the two top dogs, but they belong in the same category as NRG as an LCS squad that is good but not great. They rank 3rd-4th across most performance metrics, except for their early-game gold differential.

At 10, 15, and 20 minutes, Team Liquid are, on average, in a deficit at -400, -240, and -400 gold, respectively. In contrast, FlyQuest consistently gain early advantages.

Team Liquid have put themselves in advantageous positions in some of the series this LCS season, but they’re also known for blundering their leads in the mid-late game and have a tendency to struggle to close out series. This season, they have looked slightly better in that aspect and were fairly efficient in winning games where they got ahead early – the problem is that TL rarely managed to accomplish that against tougher opponents.

Should FlyQuest Be Favoured?

FlyQuest are not a perfect team. They’ve had their blunders this LCS 2024 Spring regular season, and they proved they’re capable of losing to anyone. However, for this match in particular, they should be considered the stronger team.

Besides having the side choice, FlyQuest have also proven to be more consistent and better team than Team Liquid over the 14-game stretch. Their had-to-head loss earlier this month puts a question mark above that statement, however, as noted, that game should’ve ended the other way.

Other reasons to believe FlyQuest are stronger include their significantly better performance pre-20 minutes. While FlyQuest consistently gain leads early, Team Liquid consistently fall behind. Admittedly, when Team Liquid don’t lose pre-20 minute, they typically win, but that doesn’t happen often enough.

And perhaps the biggest reason why anyone should doubt Team Liquid and their chances to win on Friday is the mid-lane matchup between Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen and Eain “APA” Stearns.

APA has been a liability for Team Liquid throughout the LCS 2024 Spring regular season, and he’ll be an even bigger liability in the best-of-five series. Team Liquid can counterweight that a bit by fielding jungler Eom “UmTi” Seong-hyeon, but having a weak mid lane is a huge issue Team Liquid will struggle to overcome.

The offered price seems to take into account some of the brand value of Team Liquid and their head-to-head win against FlyQuest earlier this month. But if we compare the two teams, it’s very difficult to find a good reason to doubt FlyQuest and thier chances to crush Team Liquid.
