GamerLegion To Host Nili’s Apartment Cup IV

Nili’s Apartment Cup returns on Saturday, March 11, with the fourth iteration of the Age of Empires II tournament. It will welcome 10 Age of Empires pro players who will compete for the lion’s share of the $52,283 prize pool and the bragging rights that come with winning the event.

Nili’s Apartment Cup IV Format & Schedule

Nili’s Apartment Cup IV is a 1v1 tournament hosted by pro player Sven “Nili” Reichardt Nili’s Apartment Cup. It has historically been a LAN event hosted in Nili’s apartment in Hamburg, Germany, but this year, it travels to GamerLegion’s gaming house.

Despite the change of the venue, Nili’s Apartment Cup IV will use the same format as its previous iterations and will run for nine days, from March 11-19.

  • Date: Saturday, March 11 – Sunday, March 19
  • Venue: GamerLegion Gaming House
  • Where to Watch: Twitch, YouTube

Nili’s Apartment Cup was first hosted in July 2018 and annually ever since then. Since its inception, it has been more of a friendly event, much like a LAN gaming event between friends, but throughout the years, it has gained recognition as a proper AoE II tournament, mainly due to the big names that attend it.

This year is no different. Nili’s Apartment Cup IV will feature 10 of the world’s best AoE II esports players who will compete for the lion’s share of the $52,283 (the largest pool to date). The tournament will be played in a 1v1 format, starting with the group stage.

The tournament will begin with a Swiss Stage, with five rounds of action and each game played as a best-of-five (Bo5). The group stage will then proceed into a single-elimination bracket starting with the first playoffs.

Welcoming the players who placed fifth through eighth, the first playoff will be played as best-of-seven (Bo7), the same as the second playoff, where the winners of the first playoffs will join players who placed third through fourth in the Swiss Stage.

The semifinals and finals will be played as best-of-nine (Bo9), with the champion taking home $11,502.26 winner’s share.

A Friendly Tournament With Over $50k On The Line

Despite being a player-organised event, Nili’s Apartment Cup IV will feature Hamzah “Hera” El-Baher, Ørjan “TheViper” Larsen, Roberto “TaToH” Jiménez, Kai “Liereyy” Kallinger, and Huy “ACCM” Hoang, making up most of the current top-rated AoE II players.

Unfortunately, since this is a player-hosted tournament without any big sponsors, it doesn’t get as much attention, which explains why there are no outright betting odds available on it. Still, bet365 offers betting markets for the Swiss Stage, pricing the first round of play.

What’s Next On The AoE II Esports Schedule?

Nili’s Apartment Cup IV is more of a friendly event intended to bring together players who have been playing together and competing against each other for years, so it’s not meant to be a tournament which will determine who is the best in the world.

But unfortunately, there is no official announcements for a “proper” Age of Empires II event anytime soon. With the organisation of events relying mostly on players and other individuals who are involved in the AoE II competitive scene, it’s entirely likely that we’ll get another tournament like Nili’s Apartment Cup in the next month.

For anything beyond that, we’ll have to wait for RedBull to return with its Red Bull Wololo Series, which proved to be a massive success in 2022.
