LCK 2023 Summer Week 5 Betting Picks – Wednesday, July 5

League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) 2023 Summer enters the second half of the split on Wednesday, July 5, with the first pair of Week 5 matches.

The week will kick off with a clash between Kwangdong Freecs and Dplus KIA and conclude with the perpetual underdogs, DRX, taking on T1 in what promises to be a very one-sided affair.

Kwangdong Freecs vs Dplus KIA Betting Preview

When: Wednesday, July 5, 17:00 KST

Kwangdong Freecs took down Liiv SANDBOX (2-0) on Saturday, which marked only their fourth victory of the LCK 2023 Summer and their second across the last four outings, with defeats against T1 (0-2) and KT Rolster (0-2), and a 2-0 sweep of Nongshim RedForce.

Kwangdong Freecs have been playing well and have shown better performances than their current position would suggest. They’re very efficient in the early game and consistently gain leads, boasting an impressive +1105 Gold Difference at 15 minutes (+1105 GD@15). However, despite their solid performance stats, Kwangdong also tend to fall off in the mid-late game and have issues closing out games.

As soon as KDF figure out how to start closing out games, this will be a scary team. But for now, they’re just a team with the potential to be great and potentially make some noise in the LCK 2023 Summer Playoffs.

Dplus KIA share a 4-4 record and suffer from the same weakness as KDF – Dplus KIA have yet to produce good results against top teams. They’re 1-3 from their last four outings, with defeats against KT Rolster (0-2), Gen.G (1-2), and T1 (0-2), while their sole win came against weakened Hanwha Life Esports (2-0).

In their defence, Dplus played a very competitive game against Gen.G, and this is still a very stacked roster. Much like Kwangdong Freecs, Dplus have yet to show their true form and could be an interesting team to follow in the LCK 2023 Summer playoffs as potential dark horses to win it all.

Dplus KIA have a very high ceiling but have yet to figure things out. So even though they’re not in an optimal state, Dplus KIA are rightly priced as the favourites. However, having Kwangdong Freecs priced at 4.50 is a bit too disrespectful.

Dplus are much stronger on paper, but their early game isn’t that good, so there’s a chance KDF get ahead early and run away with the game at least once throughout the series.

DRX vs T1 Betting Preview

When: Wednesday, July 5, 19:30 KST

T1 enter LCK 2023 Summer Week 5 with a 6-2 record and a two-game winning streak, with wins against Dplus KIA (2-0) and Nongshim RedForce (1-2). Losing a map against RedForce stands out as one of T1’s worst results of the season, but I wouldn’t overreact to it.

T1 are one of LCK’s top teams, and they likely won’t lose this tag anytime soon, but over the last two weeks, they have produced a few questionable maps. Is this an indication of T1’s struggles? Likely not, but more of a case of T1 underestimating their opponents and, most of all, opting for weird drafts – which could be the case of testing out different compositions against weaker opponents.

DRX enter Week 5 of LCK 2023 Summer with a 2-6 record, which isn’t a good spot to be in, but they’ve shown some improvement of late, with wins against RedForce (2-1), Liiv SANDBOX (2-1), and a close defeat against OKSavingsBank BRION (1-2). Saying that DRX have looked better in their recent LCK 2023 Summer outings is just trying to find some positives in their games, which there haven’t been many this split. On a more positive note, DRX have looked a bit more confident in their recent games.

T1 are priced as 1.04 favourites to defeat DRX, which is quite pricey, and I’m tempted to side with DRX with a map advantage (3.50) just because the esports betting odds seem a bit too high. But there is no reason to believe DRX can upset T1, regardless of how shaky T1’s recent drafts might’ve looked.
