LCS 2023 Summer Betting Predictions

The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2023 Summer has two main favourites to win the league in FlyQuest and Cloud9, which looks about right. That is mainly because Cloud9 were by far the best team in the league last split and hasn’t made any roster changes, whereas FlyQuest have put together what looks to be the most stacked roster in the league.

The cost cuts across the league and most organisations’ evident unwillingness to invest in the LCS have created a large gap between the top two and the rest, making it hard to justify betting on any team other than FlyQuest or Cloud9.

Moreover, the recent developments in the league don’t make the situation any better. Before the LCS 2023 was scheduled to start, Riot Games announced that the LCS teams no longer need to field an academy roster, which led seven organisations (besides C9, FlyQuest, and Evil Geniuses) to withdraw from the academy league. This severely harmed the NA LoL esports scene and its future and led to a backlash by the LCS Player Association (LCSPA).

Many LCS players decided to support LCS Player Association (LCSPA) and not participate in LCS, and many academy teams refused to offer their players as substitutes, which effectively left LCS squads without rosters and struggling to find players – despite Riot Games allowing the organisations to sign new players post transfer window.

And even a few days before the season starts, we are still waiting for confirmation of what will happen.

Prediction: FlyQuest to win – 3.00 at Pinnacle 1 unit

FlyQuest looked unstoppable early into LCS 2023 Spring, and they would’ve won the league had they not slowed down at the very end. That wasn’t necessarily because FlyQuest suddenly became weaker, but the meta shifted, and they weren’t quick enough to adapt.

Whether that will repeat itself remains to be seen, but with the signing of Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme, FlyQuest now fields the most stacked roster in the LCS and is rightly priced as the favourites. Purely talent-wise, FlyQuest and Cloud9 are miles ahead of other teams, but out of the two, FlyQuest has a higher ceiling.
