LEC 2023 Spring Groups Decider Matches Betting Preview & Predictions

The League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) 2023 Spring Groups Decider Matches kick off on Sunday, April 16, featuring two best-of-three (Bo3) series to determine the final two teams that will enter the playoffs.

The day will begin with a clash between Astralis and MAD Lions, followed by the final series of LEC 2023 Spring Groups between G2 Esports and KOI.

Astralis vs MAD Lions Betting Pick

  • When: Sunday, April 16 – 18:00 CEST
  • Where: LEC Studio in Berlin, Germany

MAD Lions edged past Fnatic (2-1) in LEC 2023 Spring Groups Elimination Match on Saturday, but it was far from a perfect game. In fact, it was a complete fiesta with countless questionable plays from both sides, so it’s tough to take many positives from MAD Lions’ performance earlier this week.

MAD Lions’ questionable win against Fnatic, the fact that they finished the regular season in eighth place with a 3-6 record, and that they got blasted by Team Vitality in the opening series of LEC 2023 Spring Groups makes it very tough to have faith in their chances to reach the playoffs.

Astralis, on the other side, finished the regular season in second place with a very solid 6-3 record. Unfortunately, they weren’t nearly as successful in the LEC 2023 Spring Groups, with a narrow 2-1 victory against Fnatic and a tough 0-2 loss against Team Vitality. And yet, Astralis are the fan’s favourites heading into this match.

Still, Astralis are your typical “fight you” team that will run into their opponents, secure kills and snowball the lead. This approach has worked for them, and Astralis have the individual talent to make it work, but when it doesn’t, Astralis look like the worst team in the league.

So if you look past the hype surrounding Astralis and focus on their games and performance metrics, they’re not nearly as solid as they’re portrayed. But I guess it’s exciting to cheer on the underdog.

MAD Lions and Astralis both have their issues, but if we consider the eye test and the team’s stats, this is more of a 50/50 match than anything else. I wasn’t impressed with MAD Lions’ showings in their recent games, but they’re the right play at plus money.

  • Prediction: MAD Lions to win – 2.10 at bet365

G2 Esports vs KOI Betting Pick

  • When: Sunday, April 16 – 20:00 CEST
  • Where: LEC Studio in Berlin, Germany

G2 Esports and KOI will meet in the final LEC 2023 Spring Groups match to decide which of the two League of Legends squads will advance to the playoffs. They already met in the opening match of Group B, when KOI cooked up a 2-1 upset victory, and yet they’re priced as 4.00 underdogs to do it again, which is about the same price we had available last week.

That isn’t too surprising, knowing how good G2 Esports have looked this season, and while many would overreact to how the last match ended up, that might not be the right way to approach this match.

KOI will have a side choice here, which is advantageous, but that doesn’t change the fact that G2 Esports are simply a much better team. I would also argue that G2 choked last time out, and I fully expect them to show their true power on Sunday.

The side choice is quite important, so it wouldn’t be too shocking to see KOI take at least one map, but I’m leaning toward G2 Esports sweeping. They are a far more consistent and overall better team than KOI, which can be a bit of a hit-or-miss.

  • Prediction: G2 Esports -1.5 maps – 2.12 at GG.Bet
