LEC Spring 2024 Playoffs Preview – Round 1 Betting Picks

The League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) 2024 Spring Playoffs kick off on Saturday, with the first two series in Team Vitality vs SK Gaming and GIANTX vs Fnatic. While there are clear favourites to win the series, there are some esports betting opportunities to explore.

LEC Spring 2024 Playoffs Round 1

Team Vitality vs SK Gaming Betting Pick

When: Saturday, March 30, 17:00 CET

Team Vitality performed well this split and ended the LEC 2024 Spring regular season in second place, with the same 6-3 record as Team Heretics, G2 Esports, and Fnatic. As talked about during the regular season, Vitality have looked better this split, showing more consistent performances than in LEC 2024 Winter; however, they’ve had their fair share of games where Vitality’s volatility showed.

Performance metrics-wise, Vitality rank as the league’s fifth-best team, which sounds about fair given their final placement. But we have to consider that in their most recent games, Team Vitality’s played surprisingly well and produced some of the best games of the season.

SK Gaming have shown some flashes of greatness throughout LEC 2024 Spring regular season, however, their final placement isn’t too convincing. SK ended the season in eighth place with a 3-6 record and they needed to win the tiebreaker to take the playoff slot away from Rogue.

I was bullish on SK Gaming for most of the season, but looking at their games from afar, SK Gaming have not performed well recently and is form-wise the exact opposite of Team Vitality. Recent form combined with the LEC regular split record makes seeing VItality priced as favourites more than justifiable.

Even though Team Vitality are still the same team that shoot themselves in the foot more times than not with their volatility, I would prefer to be on their side of this contest,

Under total kills is another market to look at for this series. The teams have averaged 29.3 and 28.5 kills per game throughout LEC 2024 Spring. However, they have averaged just over 24 kills in their matchups in 2024 and the LEC playoffs typically see a smaller number of kills per game.

  • Prediction: Team Vitality -1.5 Maps – 2.65 at Unibet, 0.5 unit
  • Prediction: Under 29.5 Kills – 1.86 at Unibet, 1 unit

Fnatic vs GIANTX Betting Pick

When: Saturday, March 30, 20:00 CET

Fnatic won the LEC 2024 Spring regular season even though they ended in a four-way tie with G2 Esports, Vitality, and Team Heretics, who all won six of the nine series played. GIANTX, on the other side, ended the year with a 4-5 record, which was good enough for a sixth-place finish.

Before the upcoming match, Fnatic announced the signing of ex-GIANTX coach Jonas “Hidon” Vraa, which bumps them up a bit more, however, I wouldn’t overreact to that announcement too much. Having a coach that knows your opponents is beneficial, although it’s not like stuff like that can turn games upside down. Moreover, it’s not like Fnatic need to have any added advantage.

Fnatic are priced just north of 1.20 (Pinnacle) to defeat GIANTX, which is an absurd price, but also a fair one. Fnatic have been one of the top-two LEC teams for the entire season and while they might not be as potent as G2 Esports, there are arguments to be made than Fnatic have a realistic chance to win the LEC title. GIANTX have been competitive, but that’s about it.

We’re getting 1.57 on Fnatic to sweep, and while it’s likely that the Black & Orange will win in two maps, the offer isn’t too inviting. Betting on kill under would be a better choice, considering Fnatic tend to score lower when faced with weaker teams. GIANTX are overall a very low-scoring team with an average combined kills per game at 23.4.

If you believe GIANTX have something prepared to keep the game close, under might not be the right play, but based on what the two teams have shown, Fnatic should be in control of this match from the start to finish and as bloody as this team typically is (31 average kills), they probably won’t try to risk too much against a weaker opponent.

  • Prediction: Under 27.5 Kills – 2.00 at Unibet, 1 unit
