LEC Winter 2024 Playoffs Round 2 – Day 5 Picks
Team Vitality vs MAD Lions
When: Monday, February 12, 17:00 CET
MAD Lions played a competitive game against Fnatic in the first round of the LEC 2024 Winter Playoffs but were clearly the weaker team on the day and arguably looked much better due to Fnatic’s blunders on the second map. However, after the somewhat unconvincing showing against the Black & Orange, MAD Lions improved the impression by sweeping GIANTX in the first round of the lower bracket.
It was a dominant win from MAD, but they also faced a weaker team, which helped them look better than they were. I mentioned before that I like MAD Lions, how they approach their games without fear, and their drafts, but they’re also somewhat inconsistent.
The same applies to Team Vitality, who are a hot-or-cold team. On a good day, the Bees will play well, but a lot will depend on how their mid and bottom lane perform, so it’s difficult to say how good Vitality will be on any given day.
I like MAD Lions slightly better, but not enough to take their side at the current LoL esports betting odds. Any side markets also don’t appeal to me due to the aforementioned inconsistency the two squads have shown so far in this LEC split.
We should see faster games, so under 27.5 kills is worth checking out. For me, this is a pass.

Fnatic vs SK Gaming
When: Monday, February 12, 20:00 CET
SK Gaming are priced as 3.40 underdogs for their match against Fnatic, and the generous offer alone is enough to consider backing them. They’ve held on well so far in the LEC 2024 Winter and have shown a handful of good performances.
However, we have to consider that Fnatic are a huge step up in competition for SK.
SK Gaming beat Team Heretics in the first round of the lower bracket in what was quite a chaotic game, which could’ve ended either way. It’s fair to give SK Gaming some praise for showing how resilient they can be, but it’s easy to look good against a weaker team, and it’s tough to believe SK will manage to show the same qualities when faced with a squad that is a tier above them.
Fnatic are not a perfect team. They’ll make mistakes and are more than capable of dropping maps against a weaker opponent. Still, we have to make some adjustments when comparing the teams and bump up Fnatic purely due to their experience and versatility.
SK Gaming have side choice for this series, which is something to consider, but this alone won’t be enough to nullify the quality difference between the squads. As much as I want to make a case for SK, who are admittedly priced generously, SK Gaming are not in the same tier as Fnatic, who are arguably LEC’s best squad besides Fnatic – ahead of Team BDS.
The kill totals for this match is set at 26.5 kills, which is a high number for a series involving SK Gaming, who’ve been an under team so far in LEC 2024 Winter. This is an appealing choice even if you believe Fnatic are a significantly better team and just roll over SK Gaming.
