The final match of League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2023 Summer Playoffs Round 3 will see LNG Esports take on Weibo Gaming in what should be a very entertaining game between two strong candidates to finish the split top three.
The latest esports betting odds suggest LNG Esports should come out ahead, which considering their regular-season accomplishments, makes sense. However, Weibo Gaming have won the head-to-head and have shown higher highs.
LNG Esports vs Weibo Gaming Betting Preview
When: Tuesday, July 25, 17:00 CST
LNG Esports and Weibo Gaming will meet on Tuesday, July 25, in the third round of the LPL 2023 Summer Playoffs, marking their first meeting since the second week of the regular season, when Weibo Gaming won 2-0. Yet despite winning the meeting, WBG are priced as the underdog for Tuesday’s affair.
There are arguments to support that, mainly that LNG Esports ended the LPL 2023 Summer regular season in third place with a 12-4 record, whereas Weibo Gaming have placed sixth with a 10-6. Moreover, Weibo Gaming have produced more stinkers than LNG, yet there’s more to this game than just comparing the team’s LPL 2023 Summer regular season results or stats they’ve produced against all teams.
Weibo Gaming Have A Very High Ceiling
With Weibo Gaming, you never know what you’re going to get, which is something that comes with fielding Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok. Even throughout the LPL 2023 Summer regular season, Weibo Gaming have played a few bad games against much weaker teams, and they didn’t look too convincing in their 3-1 win against Ninjas in Pyjamas on Sunday either.
That statement is to be taken with a grain of salt. Weibo Gaming were crushing it in two of the three maps won; the other two were a bit too close for comfort.
However, look past WBG’s shaky performances against weaker teams, and you have a squad that has played excellent games against elite LPL squads. Weibo Gaming are just one of two teams in the league to defeat JD Gaming and one of the few to take a game from Bilibili Gaming.
Another thing to consider is that Weibo Gaming are very good at getting ahead early and have proven that they can convert the early leads to wins, with an 86% win rate in games where it led at 20 minutes.
Weibo Gaming are an exciting team to follow since you don’t know what version you’re going to get. But regardless of their slip-ups, WBG have shown elite-level performances, most commonly against top teams.
Are LNG Esports Really That Good?
LNG Esports were expected to do well in LPL 2023 Summer regular season, and they didn’t disappoint. Out of the top teams, LNG Esports have also been the most consistent, and they rarely lost against weaker opponents – like Weibo Gaming.
However, while LNG Esports’ record against weaker teams is solid, they have not looked nearly as good against tougher opposition. That’s not to say that LNG Esports can’t perform, but they rely too much on getting ahead early, which explains why LNG haven’t looked as dominant when playing against a quality team.
In some ways, LNG Esports are the opposite of Weibo Gaming. They’ll crush lesser teams but struggle a bit more against quality teams. Weibo Gaming do the opposite.
Weibo Gaming are priced as 2.40 (at GG.Bet) underdogs for their match against LNG Esports, which looks a bit too generous. Admittedly, Weibo Gaming didn’t impress against NiP over the weekend (should probably lose two maps), but this team has a high ceiling and very experienced players.
I won’t even be shocked if Weibo Gaming finish LPL 2023 Summer top three – anything beyond that is unlikely due to how much stronger Bilibili Gaming and JD Gaming are than the rest of the league. But you never know; if Weibo Gaming figure out how to stop screwing themselves and start posting more consistent performances, this team can go far.
- Prediction: Weibo Gaming to win – 2.40 at GG.Bet
- Prediction: Weibo Gaming -1.5 maps – 3.68 at GG.Bet
