LoL Worlds 2023 Play-In Round 2 Betting Preview and Predictions

The first round of LoL Worlds 2023 Play-In stage is behind us, with LOUD, PSG Talon, Team Whales, and CTBC Flying Oyster taking one step closer to qualifying for the main event. On the other side, GAM Esports, Movistar R7, Team BDS, and DetonatioN Focus Me were given one last chance to step up and keep their dreams of qualifying for LoL Worlds 2023 alive.

Today, we take a look at the two LoL Worlds 2023 Play-In Upper Bracket bouts, in LOUD vs PSG Talon and Team Whales vs CTBC Flying Oyster, who will lock horns on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

LOUD vs PSG Talon Betting Pick

When: Thursday, October 12, 9:00 CEST (16:00 KST)

PSG Talon defeated Movistar R7 2-0 in the first round of LoL Worlds 2023 Play-In stage, but they didn’t look too convincing, especially on the first map, which should’ve ended in Movistar R7’s favour. And it would’ve had Movistar R7 not choked – which is somewhat expected from these lesser teams.

It’s very clear that these minor-region teams might have their moments, but more times than not, they’ll struggle to close out games, even if they’re in a winning position. On the topic of PSG Talon’s performance, the second map was a complete stomp, so it’s not like PSG were a complete disappointment.

Their next opponent, LOUD, smashed GAM Esports on the first map but didn’t look as clean on the second, which looked like it was going in GAM’s favour. GAM held a 6k gold lead, yet they still managed to blunder their chances.

GAM Esports messed it up big time, but we can also acknowledge that LOUD managed to take advantage of their chances and turned the game around.

Both teams looked shaky in their opening matches, which makes it tough to say how this bout will go. PSG Talon seem stronger since they hail from a better region, but based on what they’ve shown on day one of LoL Worlds 2023 Play-In, I would prefer to side with LOUD at the offered esports betting odds.

Both teams have the tools to beat one another, and it’ll all come down to which squad will mess up less. A 50-50 affair in my book.

Team Whales vs CTBC Flying Oyster Betting Pick

When: Thursday, October 12, 12:00 CEST (19:00 KST)

CTBC Flying Oyster did a good job punishing DetonatioN FocusMe in the opening round of the LoL Worlds 2023 Play-Ins and earned their spot in Group B upper bracket, where they’ll face Team Whales, who shocked the world with their 2-1 victory against Team BDS.

Team Whales achieved the impossible on Wednesday when they took down Europe’s fourth seed, but I can’t say I’m shocked. Team BDS are the type of team that can lose to anyone, and we got to see just that in the first round. But while most will talk about how poorly Team BDS played, we must also give some credit to Team Whales who played a good game and earned the win.

However, things won’t go as smoothly on Thursday.

Even though Team Whales beat a significantly better opponent, most of it had to do with Team BDS’s poor decision-making and questionable drafting. So, while we should acknowledge Team Whales’ victory, they didn’t show anything spectacular.

The same can be said about CTBC Flying Oyster, who didn’t have to play a very good opponent, but they looked far cleaner in their match. Moreover, I have to put more weight on the region’s strength, as PCS is much stronger than any other minor region, especially the VCT, which is lacking.

CTBC Flying Oyster should win, but with these minor-region teams, you never know who and when will choke.
