Top Esports vs EDward Gaming Betting Tips – Monday, July 24

The League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2023 Summer Playoffs enter the third round on Monday, July 24, with the first match between EDward Gaming and Top Esports. The two LPL powerhouses will meet for the first time since the first week of the LPL 2023 Summer regular season when Top Esports won, and according to the latest LoL esports betting odds, TES should do it again.

However, while Top Esports entered the LPL 2023 Summer Playoffs as the better team, EDward Gaming have proven their worth with wins against Team WE and Oh My God. But are they ready to take on a stronger opponent?

Top Esports vs EDward Gaming Betting Preview

When: Monday, July 24, 17:00 CST

Top Esports and EDward Gaming will cross swords on Monday, July 24, in Round 3 of the LPL 2023 Summer Playoffs. The two teams last met on Saturday, June 3, in the first week of the LPL 2023 Summer regular season, when Top Esports came away with a victory (2-1), but a lot of time has passed since.

Since their last meeting, EDward Gaming replaced their starting ADC Hu “Leave” Hong-Chao, who was supposedly soliciting prostitution. To fill in the gap, EDward Gaming added the legendary Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao. The addition of Uzi made EDG one of the most overhyped teams in the LPL and were an excellent fade until the market caught up that EDward Gaming aren’t as good as they look on paper.

However, despite EDG’s shaky ending to the LPL 2023 Summer regular season, they have looked decent in the first two rounds of the LPL 2023 Summer Playoffs.

EDward Gaming Are Getting It Done

EDward Gaming were one of the least exciting teams ahead of the LPL 2023 Summer Playoffs in my book, as I wasn’t sold on them based on what they’ve shown in the latter parts of the regular season. They collected a few wins but didn’t look too convincing, and then there were the occasional bad performances, which didn’t help make EDG look like a dangerous team.

However, EDward Gaming have beaten Team WE (3-1) and Oh My God (3-2) in the first two rounds of the LPL 2023 Summer Playoffs. They didn’t dominate, and neither game looked very pretty, but EDG got things done, which is largely thanks to their improved early game.

It seemed like EDward Gaming became more efficient in gaining early leads, which has helped them look better than expected so far in the playoffs. But will that be enough to upset Top Esports, who are known to be very potent in the early game as well?

What Kind Of Top Esports Will We Get?

Top Esports finished the LPL 2023 Summer regular season in fourth place, with a 12-14 record and a 66% map win rate (25-13), which was a decent outcome. But I’m not as interested in their win percentage as much as how Top Esports play.

Historically, Top Esports have been a very up-and-down team, and things haven’t changed this split. They have produced some of the most dominant wins of the split and even played excellent games against top LPL squads, but on other days, we got to see Top Esports lay an egg against a weaker opponent.

So every time you bet on Top Esports, you essentially hope that you get the “good version” of Top Esports. In their defence, Top Esports deserve to be priced as the favourite, mainly because they will get the side choice and because they had enough time to prepare for EDward Gaming.

On the other side, Top Esports are coming into the game cold, but you could also make the opposite claim that EDward Gaming might be fatigued. It’s easy to complicate things.

So what’s the plan of attack? Do we trust EDward Gaming, who’ve not looked too good in the LPL 2023 Summer regular season but have shown improvement, or Top Esports, who are the better team, but have the tendency to drop the ball?

Priced at 1.44 (at bet365), Top Esports are expected to win, and considering they have side selection and nine maps of film to watch over and analyse EDward Gaming, makes some sense. Still, at 2.75, we’re getting some value on EDward Gaming.

Given how unpredictable LPL games have been since the latest patch, I’m taking a smaller position on EDG, but I will look for in-play betting opportunities. I can see Top Esports sweeping if things fall into place, but a lot will come down to how they plan to attack EDG early.
