VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo – Fnatic Eyeing Their Second Tournament Title

Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2023: Masters Tokyo is the first international Valorant esports event following the season-opening VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo. The tournament is set to take place in Chiba, Japan, on June 11-25, and it’ll welcome the world’s top 12 Valorant esports teams vying for the lion’s share of the $1,000,000 prize pool.

As Valorant teams from all over the globe meet again in the same arena to represent their region, the main question ahead of VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo is not necessarily who will win, but rather can any team stop Fnatic and LOUD?

VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo Format & Schedule

VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo is set to take place at TIPSTAR DOME CHIBA Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, on June 11-25. The tournament will feature 12 Valorant teams from four regions, including squads from the three main leagues and two Chinese squads who finished top two at FGC Valorant Invitational 2023: Act 1.

  • Date: June 11-25
  • Venue: TIPSTAR DOME CHIBA Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan
  • Where to Watch: YouTube, Twitch

VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo will be divided into two stages – the Group Stage and the Playoffs. The group stage will kick off on June 11 with two double-elimination format (GSL) groups, with four teams in each group.

The group stage will welcome just the eight low-seeded teams, who will fight for four tickets (two per group) leading into the playoffs.

Group Stage teams:

  • FUT Esports (EMEA)
  • Natus Vincere (EMEA)
  • NRG Esports (Americas)
  • Evil Geniuses (Americas)
  • DRX (Pacific)
  • T1 (Pacific)
  • Attacking Soul Esports (China)
  • EDward Gaming (China)

The top four teams (top two of each group) will proceed to the VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo playoffs, where they’ll meet with the top-seeded teams in Team Liquid, Fnatic, LOUD, and Paper Rex. The Playoffs will run from June 16 to June 25, seeding the teams into a double-elimination bracket.

All playoff matches will be played as best-of-three (Bo3), except for the lower bracket final and the grand finals, which will be best-of-five (Bo5).

All Eyes On Fnatic and LOUD

According to the latest Valorant esports betting odds, Fnatic (2.39 at Pinnacle) and LOUD (4.00 at GG.Bet) are the leading candidates to win VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo, which is hardly surprising.

Fnatic and LOUD already proved their strength at VCT 2023: LOCK//IN São Paulo, where they cruised through the tournament and clashed in the finals, in one of the closest big event grand finals in Valorant esports history. Fnatic ended up on top with a remarkable comeback win, which explains why they’re priced as the main favourites, but there’s more to Fnatic and LOUD than their showing in the opening tournament of the season.

Both squads dominated throughout the regular season and were by far the best-performing teams in their respective regions. LOUD won VCT Americas League with just one defeat to their name, while Fnatic ended the regular season with a flawless record but then slipped in the finals against Team Liquid.

Despite Liquid’s success in the VCT EMEA League finals, where they accomplished the impossible, they’re priced as fifth favourites (9.61) to win VCT 2023 Masters Tokoyo, behind two VCT Pacific League representatives, Paper Rex (6.33) and DRX (8.55).

Behind the leading five squads, we have three dark horses in NRG Esports (11.73), Natus Vincere (12.79), and Evil Geniuses (54.18), who might cause some chaos in the early stages of the event, but neither has produced enough this season to be considered strong contenders. But the question remains – is there any value in backing any of the three underdogs?

And lastly, we have three complete outsiders in EDward Gaming (71.10), T1 (107.07), and Attacking Soul Esports (501.00), who are the main candidates to get eliminated first.

Fnatic, LOUD, Or…?

According to the latest Valorant esports betting odds, Fnatic and LOUD are by far the strongest teams at VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo, and there is little that would suggest otherwise. They were by far the best teams at VCT 2023: LOCK//IN São Paulo, and neither have slowed down since.

However, while LOUD or Fnatic are the most likely victors, there’s a good chance either of the two slips, leaving the doors wide open for one of the underdogs to reach the big stage. Paper Rex and DRX are billed as the most likely candidates to do so, yet it’s hard to ignore NRG Esports, who might be a bit underrated due to hailing from a weaker region.

Still, we have to remember that NRG Esports nearly defeated LOUD in the VCT Americas League finals, and they’ve looked much better in the latter stages of the season, so perhaps we should keep an eye on them.

There will be plenty of excellent betting opportunities during VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo, and with the right tools, those will be easy to spot and take advantage of.
